Too Fast Too Soon

Carrie met Ryan through some friends.  He seemed like a fun guy.  He loved to hang out with people she hung out with and he always made her laugh.  It also didn’t hurt that she felt a connection between them.  They had been just hanging out with their friends about a month before they actually made a real date.

Before the date ever came around she started to realize something was not right.  One of their mutual friends called her one day with the news that she had heard Ryan was now her boyfriend.  Carrie asked where she heard that and her friend replied that Ryan had told her.  After a few more calls to other mutual friends, Carrie found out Ryan had told everyone that they were a couple now.  Carrie figured that Ryan was just misunderstanding their relationship and that it was no big deal.

From Bad To Worse

Unfortunately, Carrie soon found out it was a big deal.  Their first date ended up being his family reunion where Ryan proceeded to tell everyone they were a couple and that they were even considering marriage.  Carrie was appalled.  She had only known him for a month and this was their first date.  She felt blindsided.

The date went even more wrong when they went back to his house, where Carrie felt the alone time would allow her to explain she was not his girlfriend.  That wasn’t to happen, though.  Ryan had other plans.  He had it all set up for them to spend some quality time watching his porn.  Seriously?!  Porn?!  What was he thinking?

Carrie abandoned all hope of trying to fix this and she left right away, telling him they were done and she never wanted to see him again.  He just looked shocked, but he did leave her alone after that.

Sometimes Being Picky is Just Gross http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/real-life/sometimes-being-picky-is-just-gross/ http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/real-life/sometimes-being-picky-is-just-gross/#comments Thu, 24 Sep 2009 13:07:48 +0000 Sandy B. http://www.datingandlovetips.com/?p=211 nline Dating stories are often filled with tales about people who are not what they say they are.  It is so easy to make up a false image online that many people do it thinking that it will be overlooked when they meet someone in person. However, as the following story shows, some things simply cannot be overlooked.

Mr. Late

Shelly had found a guy online who she really clicked with.  She was super excited to go out with him on their first real date.  They were both theater buffs so they went to the movies on their date.  She was a little taken back when they first met since he looked nothing like his profile picture, but he was not bad.  She was fine with it.  She understood the pictures people put on their profiles are ones they look the best in and many times they are much different in person.  She knew she didn’t look much like her picture either.

His looks were not the thing that started the date off bad.  It was the fact that he was late, so they missed the start of their movie and had to settle for a loud action flick instead.  Shelly wasn’t too happy about this.

Mr. Nose Picker

As they sat in the theater she was just hoping for the movie to end so they could go get coffee and talk.  She glanced over at him and that is when the whole date went sour.  Right when she looked his way she saw him pick his nose and wipe it on the arm of the seat.  She about lost it.  From that point on all she could think about was how to get out of this date.

Shelly managed to fake being sick and ran as fast as she could away from Mr. Nose Picker, but not before he stole an umbrella someone had laid down to give her since it was pouring rain.  Shelly was good humored about it and she laughed it off, thankful that she could simply block him online and not have to deal with him again.

Reality TV Showmances http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/hollywood/reality-tv-showmances/ http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/hollywood/reality-tv-showmances/#comments Wed, 23 Sep 2009 20:53:49 +0000 Sandy B. http://www.datingandlovetips.com/?p=175 Some reality shows are all about people finding love, but others are game shows with money being the prize.  Yet, again and again we see on these non-dating reality shows romance blooming.  Is it just natural for people thrown together in a similar situation to bond and for romance to bloom?  Are people sort of pushed into relationships by producers who want some excitement added to the show?

Big Brother Showmance

Let’s look at this season’s Big Brother.  There has been a couple that seemed to click right away in the house and it has developed into, what is called in the reality world, a showmance.  Viewers have been all over the relationship between Jeff and Jordon.

Let’s look at these two for a second.  Jeff is a 31 year old coming from Illinois and Jordon is only 22 and from North Carolina.  Jeff has a career in advertising while Jordon is still figuring out what she wants to do, working as a waitress in the meantime.  These two come from two different worlds.  Jeff is a city boy and Jordon is a small town girl.  Jeff is from the north and Jordon is from the south.  In real life, how likely would it have been that these two would have ever met, let alone hooked up?  Not very.

True Love Or Reality TV Strategy?

So, why have they formed a showmance on Big Brother?  Is it the situation?  Do they really like each other?  Will it last?  If we have learned anything from past showmances then I will say the showmance is part of their strategy on some level.  They probably do like each other, but not as much as they think they do and it probably will end when the cameras stop rolling.

No matter how real showmances are, they do add spice to reality TV.  You have to admit that watching a blooming romance is rather fun.  It just is a good thing for reality shows and for producers.  So, don’t expect anyone to learn anytime soon from the past showmance failures, but that isn’t so bad is it?  How boring would shows like Big Brother be without a little romance.

Can You Really Find Love on TV? http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/hollywood/can-you-really-find-love-on-tv/ http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/hollywood/can-you-really-find-love-on-tv/#comments Wed, 23 Sep 2009 20:40:15 +0000 Sandy B. http://www.datingandlovetips.com/?p=174 Reality TV is, no doubt, here to stay.  It has become a major phenomena that captures the attention of millions of viewers on any given night on the week, as various reality shows are airing on almost every network and some cable channels.  There are different types of reality shows, but one genre seems to stands out – reality dating shows.

Is it possible to find true love on TV?  Many doubt it, but it has been done.  Remember Trista and Ryan?  Yep, the original Bachelorette married her chosen man and now they have two beautiful children.  They are living proof that it can be done.  However, they are about the only couple to have been labeled a success.

Let’s look at some big time failures and contemplate why they didn’t work out.

Bachelor Bob

This lovable teddy bear made a choice in the end, but rumors were he had already found the love of his life and was playing the game to carry out his contract with the show.  These rumors seemed to be true since shortly after the end of his Bachelor season, Bob married soap star Rebecca Budig.

Rock of Love superstar, Bret Michaels

This rock and roll man said he was looking for love in each of the three (yes, that is three) seasons of his reality show, but he never found it.  Was he really looking for love or just for a way to revive his fading career?  If you look at the facts then it seems like this was more of a career move since around the time of each show he released a new CD or went on tour.

Tila Tequila

What can you say about this often confused and always wild reality star?  Was she in it for love or fame?  Nobody really knows why Tila is so famous, but her reality show had two seasons where she was trying to figure out if it would be a man or a woman to win her heart.  It seems she wasn’t destined to find her love on TV, though.  The winner of the first season claims she just stopped speaking to him and the winner of the second season didn’t even really want to be with a woman so she declined a relationship in the season finale.

Looking over these three realty lovers doesn’t give you much hope that anything you see on reality dating shows is real.  However, if you are a hopeless romantic then I guess you can keep believing.  There is always Trista and Ryan, right?

Reality TV Dating Show Proves you Just Never Know about Some People http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/hollywood/reality-tv-dating-show-proves-you-just-never-know-about-some-people/ http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/hollywood/reality-tv-dating-show-proves-you-just-never-know-about-some-people/#comments Wed, 23 Sep 2009 20:17:43 +0000 Sandy B. http://www.datingandlovetips.com/?p=173 You may not have watched the VH1 realty dating show, Megan Wants a Millionaire, but chances are that you have heard about the controversy surrounding it.  When cast member Ryan Jenkins was accused and later charged with the horrific murder of his wife, viewers were shocked and outraged.

From Reality TV Star to Murderer

How did Jenkins even get on the show if he was this unstable?  The truth is that despite background checks and extensive interviews and other screening procedures, Jenkins passed through and was given a chance to compete with others to date the star of the show, Megan Hauserman.

This situation brings to light a very scary side of reality TV.  You just can never tell about people.  You can check out their background, talk to their loved ones and do extensive research into who they are, but you just never know if they are capable of snapping one day.

What’s The Reality Life?

This is true in life in general, but it is just plain scary in the world of Reality TV dating shows.  You don’t know these people on the show.  You put all your trust in producers and those running the show to pick people who are stable and generally just good people.  However, you just never know.  It is scary to think that if you sign up for one of these shows that you could be standing alongside someone who is mentally unbalanced.

Is reality TV exposing people to unnecessary danger?  Is this a part of reality that producers don’t want you to see?  How many other shows have had contestants who were not stable?  It really makes you start to view people in a different light.  Think about the next time you sit down to your favorite reality TV show.

Has Hollywood Sent a Clear Message About Lasting Relationships? http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/hollywood/has-hollywood-sent-a-clear-message-about-lasting-relationships/ http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/hollywood/has-hollywood-sent-a-clear-message-about-lasting-relationships/#comments Wed, 23 Sep 2009 18:29:56 +0000 Sandy B. http://www.datingandlovetips.com/?p=171 Is there really a happily ever after?  On the screen Hollywood makes us believe that everything always ends great.  The guy always gets the girl and they live happily ever after.  Then off screen you see Hollywood relationships and marriages falling apart left and right.  It seems nobody in Tinsel Town lives happily ever after.

Scrutinity Is Hard On The Relationship?

It could be the fact that almost every Hollywood relationship is scrutinized and publicized for us all to see.  That’s what everyone seems to think.  It would be annoying to have people constantly following you, talking about you and publishing your pictures all over the place. I just don’t buy this excuse, though.  To me, even if everyone is watching, if you are truly in love then nothing is going to break you up.

So what do I think is wrong with Hollywood relationships?  I hate to be the bad guy, but in all honesty I think it has a lot to do with ego and being superficial.

Think about it.  They could literally have anyone they want, but they stick in Hollywood.  They say it is because it is too hard to date non-celebs.  Please, people!  Who do you think you are kidding?  You stick in Hollywood with the pretty people because they are just like you.  They are rich and beautiful.

Celeb – Non-Celeb Dating Is Not As Popular

You don’t want to be seen around town with an average Joe or average Jane because people wouldn’t give a crap about you.  Yeah, they might snap a few pics, but we have all seen how this plays out.  The celeb/non-celeb relationships quickly fade from the spotlight.

Celebs want high profile relationships because it gets them talked about.  When they are talked about they are popular.  When they are popular they get movie roles.

Bottom line here – there is no happy ever after in Hollywood because everything in Hollywood is fake.  Relationships can’t last when it was never real to begin with.  You date someone just because of who they are and how they can further your career and you can expect for it to fall apart.

That’s my two cents on the deal.  You can agree or disagree.  I won’t back down, though.  Hollywood relationships are just what they seem to be.  A way for a celeb to keep all eyes on them and to keep their star shining.

Wholesome LeAnn Rhimes Cheating on Hubby: What’s the Deal? http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/hollywood/wholesome-leann-rhimes-cheating-on-hubby-whats-the-deal/ http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/hollywood/wholesome-leann-rhimes-cheating-on-hubby-whats-the-deal/#comments Mon, 21 Sep 2009 00:54:12 +0000 Sandy B. http://www.datingandlovetips.com/?p=172 Nobody likes a cheater, right?  What if that cheater is a wholesome, down home country girl who we watched grow up?  Does that make things different?  When I heard about LeAnn Rimes cheating ways I was floored.  I could not believe this subtle songstress had crossed that line.

You think You Know Someone…

It really makes you start to question everything.  Her image was sparkling clean.  She was a country sweetheart and she was innocent.  Then news broke of her affair with hunky Eddie Cibrian, who is also married and whom she met on the set of a TV movie.

There are a lot of ways to justify cheating or at least a lot of ways people try to justify why they cheat.  Right now LeAnn isn’t even trying to say she’s sorry.  In fact, they aren’t trying to hide what they are doing.  They just jetted off to Mexico to celebrate LeAnn’s 27th birthday.

Is It All That Worth It?

Soon, though, cracks will appear and they will be running back to their spouses trying to make things right.  Can you really ever make things right, though?  How do you forgive someone for being so selfish?  Really, that is what cheating is.  It is a selfish act where you show you have no regard for the feelings of your partner.

In my mind, cheating is unforgivable, but we often see people take back a cheating lover.  What makes people forgive the unforgivable?  Would you forgive a cheating spouse or boyfriend?

At what point do you get over their selfish act?  How can you ever get past it?  I really am stumped on this one because I cannot figure out how anyone could ever look into the eyes of a cheater and ever trust them again.  As we all know, trust is part of the foundation for a good relationship.

Chris Brown and Rihanna: A Hot Mess http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/hollywood/chris-brown-and-rihanna-a-hot-mess/ http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/hollywood/chris-brown-and-rihanna-a-hot-mess/#comments Sat, 19 Sep 2009 16:10:00 +0000 Sandy B. http://www.datingandlovetips.com/?p=170 Chris Brown and Rihanna were the hip hop power couple.  Both are cute and sweet.  They just seemed destined to be together.  Then came that night.  That horrible night when we all learned that people are not always what you believe them to be.  Chris Brown’s image was shattered and Rihanna was taken down hard.

Hot And Messy

I will never forget those police photos of Rihanna.  They just made me sick.  To know Chris did that to her was even more sickening.  How does someone do that to another person?  Especially a person who they are supposed to love.

This whole thing has become one hot mess.  At first it seemed things were clear.  Chris beat Rihanna so it was all over.  That isn’t what happened.  Rumors started popping up that Rihanna didn’t want to press charges and that she and Chris were getting back together.  Now we start hearing that Chris is denying everything and says he can’t even remember that night and what happened.  What is the deal?

First, why would you ever- ever- forgive a man who beat the crap out of you?  Rihanna certainly has other options.  She can get a way better man than Chris Brown.  Who knows what is happening in her head and to be fair, she hasn’t officially taken him back.

Memory Trouble?

Second, how can a person forget beating the crap out of someone?  If Chris really does forget what happened then that just shows how much of a problem this man has.  Not only does he beat women, but he must have been in such a rage to forget that he clearly has something mental going on.

Overall, this is a sad situation.  Chris Brown ruined a great relationship and a pretty promising career.  Rihanna may forgive and forget, but fans probably won’t.  In addition, Rihanna really doesn’t seem the same person.  This changed her.  She’s like a broken woman.  I just hope she can pick up the pieces and move on.  Her dream man is still out there.

For any of you who have been abused, take this advice – move on.  No man that beats a woman is worth your time.  Every woman deserves better.

Proceed with Caution when Posting Online Single Ads http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/real-life/proceed-with-caution-when-posting-online-single-ads/ http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/real-life/proceed-with-caution-when-posting-online-single-ads/#comments Fri, 18 Sep 2009 17:28:25 +0000 Sandy B. http://www.datingandlovetips.com/?p=209 When you post an online personal ad you are really opening yourself up for some crazy replies, but most women know this.  You think you have done good weeding through the guys who are not your type or who are just plain weird, but sometimes you can never tell.  That is why it is always nest to proceed with caution, at least until you get through the first date.

She Did Her Homework

Angie thought she found a good catch when a guy responded to her personal ad with a nice note and gorgeous picture.  She was cautious.  They exchanged some emails and even talked on the phone a few times.  She even Googled him just to see if what he was saying was for real.  She got a couple hits on him from the 1980s, but nothing bad, so she agreed to go out when he asked her.

Angie let him set up the date and was rather disheartened when he suggested they meet up for lunch at Denny’s.  Oh, well, we are in a recession, she thought.  It is more about how we get along than how much money he spends.

… But Dismissed What She Found

When they met up she almost didn’t know who he was since he looked nothing like his picture.  He was balding and about 30 years older than his picture.  Turns out they didn’t have much to talk about either.  They shared no common interests and it seems everything they had talked about before was just an act.  The worst part was that when the bill came he asked her for her half.

Angie was not impressed and she told him straight off that she felt lied to and that she would rather go home than continue with the date.  Poor Angie!  Those Google hits from the 1980s should have been a clue that he was not what he claimed to be.  Good lesson: Never dismiss what you find out from an internet search.

A Friend of a Friend http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/real-life/a-friend-of-a-friend/ http://www.datingandlovetips.com/gossip/real-life/a-friend-of-a-friend/#comments Fri, 18 Sep 2009 17:12:19 +0000 Sandy B. http://www.datingandlovetips.com/?p=208 There are numerous dating stories about people being set up by friends because it is common to think that your friends know you the best so if they set you up with someone then things should be good.  Right?  Wrong.  In most cases these dates can be just as bad as the rest.  Sometimes your friends don’t know you as well as you might think.

Perfect Guy Just Not For Her

Take Kammy, for instance.  Her best friend Denise swore she had the perfect guy to set her up with.  She just knew they would hit it off.  Kammy trusted Denise, who she has known since they were five, so she agreed to the date.

Kammy met up with Brian at a sports bar and grill, which was not bad, but not the kind of classy place she hoped for.  That was not the bad part, though.  Once Brian opened his mouth she realized that Denise must not know her at all.

What Was Her Friend Thinking?

This guy wanted to have 10 kids.  Kammy wanted none.  He wanted her to stay home and take care of the kids.  Kammy has a career that she has worked hard to be successful at.  These things were not the deal breaker, though.  The deal breaker was when he told her what he did for a living.  Turns out Brian is the owner of a slaughterhouse.  Kammy is a strict vegan who has active membership in PETA.  To make things worse, Brian is an avid hunter and he even suggested she come take a look at the ten point buck head he had stuffed and mounted on his wall at home.

Needless to say, Kammy and Brian parted ways quickly and that was the end.  When she talked to Denise about the date she couldn’t help but ask what the heck was she thinking?  Denise swore she didn’t know all those things about Brian and that she was so sorry.  That didn’t matter much since from that point on Denise never set Kammy up on another date.
