Literally and figuratively, be ready to run. For outfit, compromise between sexy and practical. Don’t give up your trendy style, however, in the rare, but life changing, event that you have to run for the hills, make sure your skirt is not to tight and your heels are not slowing you down. Have 911 on speed dial and voice recognition.

Announce that you have something in thirty minutes so you might not be able to stay for long. Have a text message ready to be sent that says “call me now” to your backup girl to give her the hint that is time to call you with the bad news. And for the backup to the backup plan, make sure he sits giving his back to the door so that you can leave on your way to the bathroom.

Be Prepared to Be Left Standing

If there’s one time you will be stood up, it’s on the blind date; interests are just very low and you never know the real story of why he agreed in the first place. So be prepared to end up alone. Bring a book; buy a new purse if you have to, but make sure you bring something to read. This way, whether your date show up or not, you will enjoy yourself.

Choose a strategic location; when a door close, another open. If one man doesn’t show up, be ready to pick up another one. It’s time to put in practice all those flirting tips you have been ready. After all, you were feeling adventurous which is why you agreed to the blind date. Don’t stop there, go the distance, seduce a better man.

Open Your Mind to The Possibility Of Fun

Blind dates are not all that bad, there are pretty good stories too but they are all outshined by the nightmares that sometimes happen. So, open your mind to the possibility of having fun. Find out as much as you can about your date and look for things you have in common. Have a few anecdotes handy and be genuinely interested in learning about the person in front of you.

As you open your mind and your heart, you might meet someone who although not right for you, is perfect for your sister. Or maybe you will learn more about yourself as you discover what you like and don’t like in a date. And there is always the eventuality that you will fall head over heel in love, but for that, there’s probably no survival guide.

Put Your Halloween Dress. Since Halloween is your favourite holiday, put on that sexy kitten dress you have hanging in the dresser. It’s a shame that such a sexy dress should go to waste. Never mind it makes you go from a girl who works to a “working girl”.

Overdo the Makeup. You have always wanted to be on Broadway, and since it might not happen, you will settle for the makeup. Decorate your face as if you were ready to give the performance of your life. Of course, the lighting in the street is different from the scene’s and you will not be on camera, but no one will probably notice.

Convince Yourself It’s The One. True, you don’t know anything about him, but your best friend set you up, so it must be The One. It doesn’t matter that you had to threaten your girlfriend to set you up with anyone or you would jump up the bridge and she finally gave in and called in a favour. Who needs the details? He is The One and you will make him realize that.

Drink Too Much. You are in front of your soul mate and you need all the courage you can get. Anyway, the drinks doesn’t seem to contain any alcohol. Also, you wouldn’t want to be impolite and say no when he offers to top your glass.

Talk About Your Grandkids. You already have your future together mapped and you can see the two of you playing with your grandkids. You can’t wait to share all that vision and you know he’ll just love hearing about it. Tell him about your wedding gown you have already purchased, about his tuxedo you already designed, and where the two of you will live. And of course, he will say yes.

Make a Public Announcement. Why leave everyone around you out? Get up and tell them how you feel and how much you are in love. Tell them everything, don’t leave anything out. Of course, don’t disappoint them when they ask for a kiss. In fact, be proactive and offer to  display one for their amusement. Go right for it, reach out for him, and try to give him a passionate kiss.

Finally, try to kiss him. Because that’s probably as close as you will get. By this time, your date would have had enough. The only reason he probably stayed this long is because he wanted to see how far you would go. But this is if you are lucky. Because if you are not, he will take you somewhere more private.

Blind Dates Are Strangers?

Most of us don’t stop to think about it, but we go on more blind date than we think. What is a blind date? At first, the easy answer is going on a date with some you know nothing or very little about. Usually, you have never even seen the person. Some other times, you have seen a picture and got some information from the matchmaker that usually goes along the line of “he is so cute, you are going to love each other.”

Now, let’s consider the last time you went on a date. Was it someone you met at a party? Or did you meet online? Or maybe you met at the coffee shop around the corner, or during happy hour after work on Friday evening. The truth is, despite everything we believe, more often than not, we know very little about the person we will be meeting for the first date. In fact, if you met the person online, you cannot swear you know what the person even looks like.

More Blind Dates Than You Think

Whether we like the idea or not, most of our dates are blind. The super cute dude at the party last night can’t actually hold a conversation that interest you for five minutes and his favourite word is “dude”. The sexy gentleman at the coffee shop is so full of himself you have to hold yourself from throwing up. And your online date, well, he forgot to mention the picture was his cousin’s or his ten year younger version.

Blind date isn’t just when all your married friends try to see you join the club by setting you up with the first single they can meet. Blind date is also when you willingly meet with someone you thought had potential just to discover two minutes in the meeting that you must have had one too many drinks when you agreed to the date.

Who Is The Blind On Your Date?

But more importantly, what’s blind about the date isn’t the other person, or the very little we know about him. What makes a date blind is our own inflated expectations, our overenthusiastic dreams, and our hopes beyond hopes that suddenly we are going to meet “the one” walking down the street and he will sweep us off our feet.

The blind on a blind date is each one of us who choose to close her eyes and see what she wants. This is not to say we shouldn’t dream or hope. It’s only to say as long as we hope too much, and expect too much before we have even had a decent conversation with someone, we will always be going on a blind date.

No Guarantees

To begin with, you have to realize that blind dates may not work out.  You could meet him and have no chemistry.  You may not find him attractive at all.  It helps to go into your blind date without any expectation of meeting the love of your life.  Look at it as a nice time out and if you do find chemistry then consider yourself lucky.  When you have this attitude then it will make things much easier for you on your blind date and allow you to make it good experience instead of a tale of terror.

Look Good

Men don’t expect you to be a super model or a playboy playmate, but they do expect that you look good.  Take time to get ready.  Use makeup, but keep it simple and natural.  Dress nicely without showing too much skin or being too provocative.  Also avoid being too matronly.  Do your hair nicely and make sure that you look clean and neat.

Make Time for the Date

Make sure that your schedule is clear for the date.  You should not be interrupted with work duties or anything else.  You should be focused on the date and nothing else.  Guys do not like to play second fiddle to your cell phone, so it is smart to turn it off while on your date.

Be Nice

Guys know blind dates are not known for being the best dates.  They do expect you to be nice, though.  A guy wants a date that will not belittle him the whole time or act uninterested.  Even if you are not hitting it off, be considerate of him.  You don’t need to be rude at all for any reason.  That only makes you look bad.

Be Yourself

Putting on an act is a bad idea.  Just be yourself.  If things do end up going well then you want him to like you for you.  Even if you don’t want to continue a relationship, the date will be much better if you are just honest.

Conversation

One of the biggest fears about blind dates is that awkward silence when nobody can think of anything to say.  While you don’t want to ramble on, you should still do your part to keep the conversation going.  Have some conversation ideas in mind.  If in doubt just ask him questions about himself.

Blind dates do not have to be horrible.  You can make any blind date a fun experience, no matter how great you hit it off with the guy.  Make the most of the night by exceeding his expectations and being someone who is fun to hang out with for the night.

Take some cues from this list as to what to ask and how to ask it:

To find out about his past relationships, ask him to tell you about his best relationship.  This will let you get to the question about how it ended.  After all, if his best relationship ended bad then that doesn’t say much about how the others ended.

To find out about his likes and dislikes, as him about his favorite movie.  A favorite movie choice can reveal a lot because many people gravitate to movies that share their values and ideas.

To find out about his general feelings towards relationship ask about his family.  You can find out about his relationship with his mom which is very telling.  See if his siblings are married.  These sorts of things give you a lot of insight.

Your Goals

Your goals when asking questions is to get insight without being too direct.  You don’t want to make him feel like you are drilling with questions.  You don’t want to overwhelm him.  Take it easy and be friendly.  Make it conversational.  You can learn a lot just by asking the rights questions.

Don’t Go At Him Like a Police Detective

The last thing a guy wants is to feel like he is being cross-examined on a blind date.  Don’t fire questions at him.  This gives the impression that you are not really listening to what he has to say and it makes him uncomfortable.  Just let the conversation flow naturally.

Dress Appropriately

Ask where you are going and dress for the occasion.  Also, forget the low cut tops and thigh high skirts.  You want the first impression to be a good one and not a slutty one.  You also do not want to wear an outfit that will stop you from having fun or fitting in wherever you are going.

Keep the Past in the Past and Leave the Future Alone

Coming up with things to talk about on a blind date can be awkward at times, but never start talking about your exes and stay away from talking about the future, too.  A blind date should be about getting to know each other right now.

Drink Responsibly

One of the biggest mistakes people make all too often on blind dates is drinking way too much.  It is so easy to keep sipping your drink because you are nervous or there are moments of silence.  All that sipping adds up fast and soon you have drank too much.  Being trashed on a first date leaves a bad impression that won’t likely get you a second date.

Have an Out Plan

You should always have a plan to get out if the date is horrible.  It can be something lame, but if it gets you out then that is fine.  You just never know who you will meet on a blind date.  If he’s scary or just boring you to tears then find a way to exit gracefully.
